The Month of April

4 Apr

There is so many exciting things about April! For one on April 20 I big chopped and it will be my 1 year anniversary! If you have read my previous post you know I currently have kinky twists in so this is the month I will undo the kinky twists at the end if April. Because I have had my kinky twists since Feb. 18 I will have a lot of new growth and that means new styles I can try! In one of my previous post I made a list of all the styles I want to try before the year ends and when I try everyone on my list I will protective style for the remaining time (maybe). With over 20 styles I wanna try I will be very busy through April especially because I have a wedding to go to and a week long camping trip! Lol #busy but I hope you can be able to keep up and I hope I can post a lot during this month! Have a great day!

Deep conditions with braids

18 Mar

Protective styles are great to use when you want to grow your hair and prevent breakage but protective styles can actually mess up your hair if not taken care of correctly. For one, you shouldn’t chafe your hair regimen just because you have a protective style in. Being consistent really matter when it come to hair. One thing on your regimen. That shouldn’t change is wash day! My wash day is every Sunday like many naturals and what I love to do is deep condition. When I deep condition in braids I make sure I start at the scalp n and work my way down. After that I make sure I put deep conditioner on every inch of my individual braids because I don’t want to miss anything(wastes product but better safe then sorry). Enough of me rambling I am going to tell you how I make my smell good conditioning mix.

Materials:
Cantu Shea butter leave in repair cream
Extrav Virgin Olive Oil(EVOO)
Conditioner(your fav that puts in moisture in your hair)
Plastic fork
Bowl/cup

Instructions:
First mix the cantu Shea butter and EVOO in a container and mix until the mix starts to look like yogurt. After that put in your favorite conditioner and mix until its as thick as you want it then add your favorite oil(mine is coconut oil). After that continue to mix and let for about 5 min. While you separate your hair. Then take the fork you used to mix the ingredients together and apply the mix on to your finger tips then apply to scalp in each section. Do that in each section the take remaining conditioner and apply it to your braids from the root to the tip(or where your hair stops). Keep the mix in you hair for as long as you want, the minimum be 30 min, then rinse out and rub the tips of your finger on your scalp to assure you get all the build up of your scalp.

4b/4c vloggers!!!!!!!!!!

16 Feb

Having 4b/4c hair can be very frustrating sometimes especially when your newly natural and you have no idea to do with your tight curls. Here is a list of Vloggers that I love and go to for inspiration ALL the time.

*Also keep in mind that someone doesn’t have to have your same hair type for you to know how to handle and moisturize your hair, everyones different*

VLOGGERS!

– glamfun

I love her so much she is so funny and is nothing but honest!

– 4cHairChick

She has lots of experience and is very helpful with tips and styling products recommendations.

-Dawnyele

She was the reason why I didn’t stop my natural hair journey, she was always committed to putting up videos on videos on Youtube and she always share her trials and Eros and her success. Although she is no longer with us, she is a definitely natural hair inspiration of my for not only 4c hair but natural hair.

-Joulezy

OMG! Joulezy is who I got to when I think that 4c hair cant be defined! She has so many cool tips on bringing out your natural hair pattern or even making different curl patters with rollers, perm rods and curl formers!

-IKnowLee

The first person I saw on youtube and the first person I went to when I just big chopped. She is so knowledgeable and is very helpful with tips on styling and creating looks that people think that type 4 hair can never do. Although I’m nt sure what she places herself on a hair typing chart she looks like a 4b/ 4c to me.

These are My top 5 natural vloggers but trust me there’s a lot of other Vloggers I love and have learned a ton about with type 3 curls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Night time wash routine with two strand twists

14 Feb

If you’ve been reading some of my blogs you can make the conclusion that I’m CRAZY ABOUT PROTECTIVE STYLING! In this post I’m going to tell you how I wash my two strand twists so it feels and looks good.

Materials:

conditioner(any choice)

Bobby pins(optional)

leave in(any choice)

Old T- shirt( optional)

Instructions:

After gathering all your materials step in the shower with your favorite moisturizing conditioner. distribute conditioner throughout your hair until there is conditioner everywhere. After doing that rinse about 90% of conditioner out of your hair then step out of the shower and wrap your hair with an old t-shirt(better to use a t-shirt than towel). About 20 minutes later take your shirt off your head and apply leave in conditioner on your hair making it softer and more manageable. Last step, is to place booby pins at the root of your( in the front of your hair) this makes the twists lay down and look less frizzy at the roots) . This is how I wash my hair during the week at night.

Tips To Get Your Hair To Hang

8 Feb

So I personally have a hard time to get my curls to hang and this is because of length and my hair type but I wont be able to know for sure until I have at least APL length. Although I have trouble with getting my curls to hang does not mean I have heard so tips to take into consideration. I’ve heard tons of tips on how to get your curls to hang but since I;m in a protective styles all the time I’ve never tried it out. I will list some helpful tips I’ve heard on giving you hair some hang time.

1. clip your hair at the roots to get your hair to stay flat and not frizzy and rise towards the sun.

2. Where you two strand twist your hair really matters so try to twist your hair in the way you want your hair to hang.

3. Using heavy products can weigh down your hair and give your hair hang time

4. Putting rollers or perm rods at the ends of your hair weigh your hair down enough for your hair to stay down the whole day.

5. Wearing a scarf at night sets your hair in a down position so when you undo your twists/braids your style stay down.

These are some ways I’ve been told to get your curls to hang but if your curls don’t hang naturally then you have to manipulate your hair in some way whether it be a twist out or a braid out.

Moisture Mix

8 Feb

So I currently have medium sized, MBL box braids and their so fun to have. The creative styles are endless but under they faux hair lies   my hair that I still have to take care of if i want to retain length. How I take care of my hair with box braids is really short and simple to do all you need is a empty spray bottle that you can put olive oil, shea butter, leave-in and water in. These four ingredients is the reason why my hair is so moisturized and smells amazing (LOL). A good thing about including the shea butter is that it makes my faux and real hair have shine which is hard to keep after having braids for about one month. I’ve had my hair braid since January 1 2013 and I can say now on February  8 2013 I have a little over an inch of new hair growth!!!!!!!!!!!! I can recommend this mix to anyone who wants to moisturize their hair in protective styles or moisturize their hair with something regularly that smells good and keep hair manageable.

Moisture mix:

30% water

40% olive oil

20% shea butter

10% leave in

Try it its certainly worth it! Tell me if this mix work well for you and/or if you have another Moisture Mix you would like to tell me about?
